Medical Terminology for Transcription

Medical Terminology for Transcription teaches you the accurate uses, definitions, spelling, and pronunciations of complex medical terminology. You will:

  • Analyze terms from all major body systems while learning to divide them into suffixes, prefixes, combining forms, and root words
  • Relate medical terms to the structural organization of the body
  • Use practical applications to link abnormal conditions and diseases with diagnostic tests and procedures and interventional treatment modalities
  • Learn common medical abbreviations, acronyms, eponyms, and symbols

Microsoft® Word for Medical Transcriptionist

Microsoft® Word for the Medical Transcriptionist is designed to introduce you to computers and the industry-standard word processing applications used by medical transcriptionists (MT) to transcribe dictation worldwide. You will:

  • Learn the technology specific to the MT field, including Office and Word, which are important for success as an allied health professional
  • Use real-life medical documents in your practical applications
  • Create, edit, and format documents that you are likely to encounter in the MT work setting

Medical Transcription Professional Tools

Medical Transcription Professional Tools is an integrated course introducing you to health care documentation and the tools necessary to become a competent MT. This course is designed to meet the AHDI competencies for: Medicolegal Aspects of the Healthcare Record, Medical Style and Grammar, and the theory of Beginning Medical Transcription. You will:

  • Acquire basic knowledge of standards and regulations, including the legal and ethical aspects affecting health care, such as HIPAA
  • Learn to apply the AHDI Code of Ethics
  • Become proficient applying the proper rules of grammar, punctuation, and medical style
  • Learn to use and evaluate resources and style references, such as The Book of Style for Medical Transcription, Third Edition and apply these guidelines to medical transcription.
  • Improve your skills and apply your knowledge by listening to medical dictations and transcribing these dictations into properly formatted health care documents
  • Practice proofreading and editing your transcribed work, gradually improving upon your skills and accuracy

Beginning Medical Transcription Practicum

Beginning Medical Transcription Practicum emulates the MT work environment introducing you to the reports and different types of health care documentation encountered by working MTs. This course is designed to meet the typical competencies for a beginning medical transcription course as outlined in the AHDI Model Curriculum. You will:

  • Transcribe 600 minutes (10 hours) of authentic health care provider-generated dictation in all body systems
  • Complete coursework that focuses on physician office, outpatient, and clinic work types, such as progress notes, SOAP notes, procedure notes, H&Ps, and discharge summaries
  • Apply style and format utilizing proper rules of grammar, punctuation, and medical style from The Book of Style for Medical Transcription, Third Edition and the AHDI Code of Ethics
  • Become proficient at using standard transcription equipment, such as wav player, software, computer, foot pedal, and headsets
  • Practice proofreading, editing, and comparing their transcribed work, checking for accuracy, gradually improving upon your skills and productivity
